Classroom Application

Activities & Exercises

  • Assign students to create x number of annotations within an academic text that explains things in their own words
  • Have students read a technical or academic article and create an illustration, play, or video narrative that relates the information to their identity
  • Start an oral discussion where students connect to an author's first person narrative article or chapter where the student is using "I" or "me" language
  • Assign an online discussion post that requires students to share their misconceptions about a topic that they had before they read an academic article they've found on their own

Analyzing and Connecting Information Success 

  • Making interdisciplinary connections between their courses
  • Using non-academic language to describe a scholarly idea
  • Finding something personal about the subject matter that they care about or can relate to
