Locate

Locating a resource is achieved when one item is isolated and its access point is identified.

Classroom Application

Activities & Exercises

  • Student is prompted to share the permanent online hyperlink or call number of an article, book, or other resource 
  • Title of resource is given and student is asked to report on the permanent hyperlink or call number
  • Ask student for an accurate citation in APA of an online peer reviewed journal. A correct citation will include the DOI or URL which is also the location
  • Encourage the student to ask ChatGPT for a bibliography on a specific class topic and then report on the existence of each resource in the list
  • Provide a bibliography and ask the student to provide permanent hyperlinks or call numbers for some or all of the items in the list

What Does Success Look Like?

Locating Information Successfully

  • Being able to identify an online resource from a print one by using a bibliographic record
  • Accurately reporting the permanent URL 
  • Accurately reporting a book's call number
  • Accurately reporting the DOI of a scholarly article
