Welcome to Shoreline Community College's Sustainability LibGuide! This guide provides an overview of this vast topic and includes links to books, databases, and online resources about Sustainability. This guide is not meant to be exhaustive, but rather to provide starting points for your research. It is a work-in-progress, and users are invited to recommend resources that they believe would be of interest to their fellow students and faculty members .
What is Sustainability?
It is challenging to define sustainability because it is a topic that encompasses so many fields of study such as agriculture, education, social justice, politics, climate change and economics to name just a few. This definition from the Report from the World Commission on Environment and Development from 1987 still holds true today, "sustainable development seeks to meet the needs and aspirations of the present without compromising the ability to meet those of the future" (para 27).
