Assistive Technology can help students with a variety of needs to enhance their learning potential and ability. It includes computer software and applications as well as practical equipment. Below is helpful information and resources on some that are available. Students may set up an Assistive Technology Consultation with SAS’s AT Specialist to discuss questions.

Depending on their individual situation, students with testing accommodations may test in the Assessment & Testing Center, or in Student Accessibility Services' semi-private or private room.

Learn basic ASL for free. Free introductory videos and interactive lessons.

Our mission is to serve the needs of the ASL Educational Community. We strive to provide free, easy-to-use reference and learning tools to enhance in-classroom learning for ASL Educators and their Students.

Using a modular curriculum of video lessons and interactive exercises, SignSchool aims to promote ASL learning in the hearing community to improve everyday communication accessibility between the Deaf and hearing.

Deaf Spotlight inspires and showcases Deaf Culture and Sign Languages through the arts.

This online multimedia site, HeART of Deaf Culture: Literary and Artistic Expressions of Deafhood, is designed to be a visual textbook for Deaf Cultural Studies programs which can be utilized in a variety of courses...the Project is organized into major categories of artistic and literary works: ASL literature...English literature...Deaf Theatre (including performance and Deaf plays), Deaf visual art, and Deaf cinema.

The mission of Hearing, Speech & Deaf Center (HSDC) is to foster inclusive and accessible communities through communication, advocacy, and education. We envision an inclusive, accessible world where everyone is understood and respected. We offer a comprehensive array of programs that foster effective communication for individuals and families affected by hearing or speech differences.

Abused Deaf Women’s Advocacy Services empowers Deaf and DeafBlind survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and harassment to transform their lives, while striving to change the beliefs and behaviors that foster and perpetuate violence. We provide comprehensive services to individuals and families, community education, and advocacy on systems and policy issues.

The Puget Sound Association of the Deaf (PSAD) Cultural Center’s mission is to serve as a center which provides educational, social, recreational, and resource programs to enhance the understanding, appreciation, and well-being of diverse deaf and deaf-blind citizens of all ages, their languages, their culture, and their contributions to society.

The DeafBlind Service Center (DBSC) is committed to assisting deafblind people in reaching and maintaining their highest possible quality of life and degree of personal autonomy.

The Office of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing encompasses several statewide programs that provide a wide range of services for Deaf, DeafBlind, DeafPlus, Hard of Hearing, Late Deafened and Speech Disabled individuals, their families, and service providers in Washington State. ODHH reviews and advocates for policy reform within Washington State to ensure that the state’s public policies are accessible, appropriate, inclusive and ADA compliant. Program services range from various technologies, trainings, consultations, contract management, information, referrals, and resources with the mission of promoting communication equity. ODHH collaborates with federal, state, and local governments, as well as with stakeholders and community members to ensure that all state services and resources are accessible to and inclusive of this diverse community.

The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), conducts and supports research in the normal and disordered processes of hearing, balance, taste, smell, voice, speech, and language.
