Information Literacy instruction and Librarian support can go well beyond citation practice and researching academic articles. Information Literacy is a competency relevant to all of Shoreline’s academic disciplines and Liaison Librarians are designated to provide specialized support for implementing Info Literacy into each Department’s and Instructor’s curricular goals. Librarians can collaborate with Faculty towards Instructional goals across all modalities, including class visits and presentation, creation of Instructional materials like Canvas modules or Library guides specific to the needs of a course, and consulting on assignments, outcomes, and assessment that relate to Information Literacy competencies.
Through Instructional collaboration, students are also introduced to the Library’s services, resources, and student support opportunities. Information Literacy includes Locating, Retrieving, Analyzing, and Evaluating information and Critical Information Literacy involves the skills that all students need in order to create new information and participate in existing learning communities.

Each instructional area has an assigned Liaison Librarian who is a designated resource to students and instructors for focused student Reference engagement, consultation on resources and materials in the collection relevant to that area, and for Instruction support to help implement and assess Information Literacy skills and competencies, relative to the Information Literacy Shoreline Student Learning Outcome (SSLO). Librarians are available to provide instruction in the classroom, to collaborate on assignments, or generate instructional materials for online and asynchronous learning.
