Ernest B. Johnson II (Dr. J.) is currently a professor of critical multicultural studies in the Equity and Social Justice program at Shoreline Community College, and adjunct faculty in American Ethnic Studies at the University of Washington. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Washington Department of Linguistics, his M.A. degree from the University of Khartoum (Institute of African and Asian Studies), and B.A. in psychology from the University of Hawaii. He has lectured on African American history, multiculturalism, linguistics, religious studies, and ethnic studies. He is currently advisor to the Moslem Student Association, chair of the Campus Diversity Action Committee, chair of the Strategic Action Plan sub-committee and chair of the Division Planning Committee.
South Africa lies at the southern-most point of the African continent and borders Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and the Indian and Atlantic Oceans. Led by Dr. Johnson, this 4-week summer program will examine the social and cultural history of South Africa and the current efforts to create a democratic, multicultural nation.
